Reaching the Mountains in India

God is constantly calling for individuals to leave everything for His purposes so that He may be glorified. Everyday He is empowering more and more disciples and leaders that leave everything to follow Christ and go to where no one has ever heard the Gospel before. It is through the sacrifice of individuals like this that disciple-making movements are started.

One of the primary leaders in India that God has been working through is Sanmugam. Currently, Sanmugam has been training 22 leaders who will be going back to 30 different villages close to Tiruvannamalai. Tiruvannamalai is a key place. It has a Hindu Temple on a mountain that attracts people from all over the world. They come and walk around the mountain and worship the idols. Last month Sanmugam and his team were heavily concentrating on reaching out to the surrounding villages close to this Hindu Temple. The training that these leaders receive includes foundational biblical teaching and then four months of practical disciple-making experience.

Here are a few encouraging stories about leaders who have gone through the training.

Brother Titus has started 2 movements and is currently doing 2 Sunday worship services. He is working in 5 villages near by Katchirayapalayam. One of Brother Titus’ disciples whole family has come to Christ.

Brother Stephen started a church in Vadapoparapi village.

Philamon, who is working in Bangalore, has been making new disciples. He started a small movement in his house. He led his boss David to Christ and his family was baptized. Another individual who has struggled with alcoholism also became a disciple of Jesus through Philamon.

Reaching the Mountains:

Sanmugam and his disciples have also been going to the mountain called “Javvadhu Hills” where there are more than 70 villages and no churches. God has helped them in reaching 3 villages near Paalampattu Village. This is a place on the top of the hills where there is no road and routes making it very hard to access using vehicles. Sanmugam had a team of disciples go to those villages for 3 months (October to December). This team went house-to-house sharing the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

Praying for India

What to pray for concerning the disciple making movements in India:

• For more workers for the harvest in India.
• That God would open the eyes and ears of the lost to hear the Gospel.
• That the Holy Spirit would guide Sanmugam and the discipleship training.
